Steel armor is a mid-pre-hardmode armor. Its set bonus is great considering how easy it is to get early. Its made from 50 steel bars at an anvil. Steel can be made at a Blast Furnace using 2 lead/iron bars and 2 charcoal.
It takes a total of 100 Lead Bars and 100 charcoal to craft enough steel for the full set of armor, this translates to 300 Lead Ore and 500 Wood to craft all the necessary bars for this armor.
A full set grants a basic 13 defense plus a set bonus of 10 defense, which equals a total of 23 defense.
